History of the Challenge Coin
During WWII, pilots carried medallion coins with them as a show of allegiance & camaraderie with their unit. The tradition began when a downed pilot was captured behind enemy lines where he was thought to be a spy and was sentenced to execution. The only means the pilot had to prove his identity was a challenge coin, which ended up saving his life. Ninety years later this tradition continues. Military, police officers, firemen, paramedics & first responders risk their lives every day for our safety. They carry challenge coins as a token of respect, symbolizing dedication and allegiance to their units and the communities they serve.
